Library Hosts “The Well Equipped Naturalist” Program

By Lenora Boninfante

Cape May Court House – The Cape May County Library invites the public to a lecture on the equipment considered essential to a naturalist to enhance the outdoor experience. The talk will be given by Don Freiday at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1 at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
In order to enjoy the outdoors, naturalists have a few simple tools to enhance the learning experience and allow you to deal with bad weather, bad terrain or bad gear. Freiday will give suggestions on the proper equipment any naturalist would want and need in order to enjoy nature. Whether you’re looking for yourself or a special holiday gift for someone, Freiday will have the answers about outdoor clothing, gear or books that any naturalist would love.
Don Freiday, Director of Birding Programs for the New Jersey Audubon Society’s Cape May Bird Observatory, is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he went on to teach undergraduate students Wildlife Ecology. Freiday is the regional coordinator for the New Jersey Breeding Bird Atlas, a member of the New Jersey Bird Records Committee, and on the executive board of the New Jersey Chapter of the Wildlife Society.
Additionally, Freiday is the co-author of two books: “A Precious Place, a Naturalist Explores New Jersey” and “Wild Journeys: Migration in New Jersey”.
