COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township Committee has approved the appointment of local educator Melanie Collins to serve as a municipal liaison to the Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro organization. The Committee authorized a resolution that appointed Collins to the volunteer, unpaid position during its meeting June 2.
“Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro is a very important community organization that provides a very valuable service to our Township”, said Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue. “We feel it is in the best interests of all of Middle Township that we foster the most open avenues of communication possible. Having a liaison who will report various issues of interest between the organization and our governing body will serve this purpose.”
Collins lives in Middle Township and is a graduate of Middle Township High School. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, and currently works as a high school teacher and adjunct professor at Rowan University. Collins resides in Cape May Court House and volunteers as a member of the Middle Township Zoning Board. She serves on the Cape May County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women and has been nominiated by Governor Chris Christie to serve on the Cape May County Board of Taxation.
Mayor Donohue has advocated for the creation of this position to foster the ongoing spirit of cooperation and collaboration between the CCW and the Township. The CCW is currently working on future plans and programing for the former Whitesboro School which carries significant historical importance to the Township. The Township will provide oversight and assistance to the CCW from Robert Matthews, Recreation Director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Whitesboro; Matthews is a Vice-President of the CCW.
“The creation of this position will ensure that open lines of communication are fostered between the township and the CCW,” Ms. Collins said. “I look forward to facilitating the expansion of this important partnership as we move forward to optimize the use of the school house.”
