Law Enforcement Officials Announce Training Exercise Set for April 23

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor, County Sheriff Gary Schaffer, and Middle Township Chief of Police Christopher Leusner announced a full-scale active shooter training exercise that will take place at the Cape May County Superior Courts, Vicinage 1, located in Cape May Court House April 23, 2015.
The Court House and Surrogates Office will be closed to all business from twelve noon until to the end of the day. Prior to this drill, employees will receive training on what to do in an active shooter event inside the Courthouse, and they will also participate in this full scale exercise.
The full scale training exercise will draw a response from surrounding law enforcement agencies, and EMS personnel to include the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Middle Township Police Department, Cape May County Office of Emergency Management and the Middle Township Emergency Medical Service. This training exercise will focus on testing building security and the physical protection of the Judiciary staff, employees, and visitors to the building.
Unfortunately, as a result of recent violent events, more and more courthouses throughout the country and in New Jersey are participating in active shooter training and drills. Prosecutor Taylor commends all of the agencies involved in this exercise for planning and participating in this training to keep our courthouses, employees, and citizens safe in our community. For more information regarding this exercise, please contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office (609) 465-1135.
