Johnson Renamed Co. Fire Marshal; Renewals Made to Varied Boards

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders reappointed Conrad Johnson Jr. as Cape May County fire marshal at their Dec. 27 meeting. His term is for one year. A retired Wildwood fire chief, Johnson oversees the office that investigates fires. 
The unexpired term of William McMahon on the county Municipal Utilities Authority was filled by Carol Heenan of Ocean City until Feb. 1, 2018. Heenan’s term became effective Jan. 1, 2017.
Freeholders approved an agreement between the county, Sheriff and the Sheriff’s Office Superior Officers Assn., FOP Lodge No. 7. The pact covers corrections captain and lieutenants. The contract is from Jan. 1, 2014 until Dec. 31, 2018.
In other action the board:
Appointed members to the Human Services Advisory Council from Jan. 1, 2017 until Dec. 31, 2019: Sarah Matthews, Kristen Bixby, Katie Faldetta and Barry Keefe.
Appointed members to the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program with terms ending Dec. 31, 2019: Catherine Leary, Cheryl O’Hara, Christine Hawkins, Paul Loveland Jr., Robert Swanson, chair, Joseph Orlando, vice chair, Hilda Orlando.
Established the Homelessness Trust Fund dedicated to addressing the needs of the homeless. It will be funded in part by the imposition of a $3 surcharge for permitted documents recorded in the County Clerk’s Office. (See story elsewhere in today’s edition.)
Designated Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton and Vice-Director Leonard Desiderio, as mayor of Sea Isle City, as annual members to the Policy Board of the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization.
Designated officers of the Construction Board of Appeals for 2017: Michael Morano, chair, Cornelius Byrne Jr., vice chair, Dale M. Foster, secretary.
Reappointed Cornelius Byrne Jr. and David Craig as members of the Open Space Review Board until Dec. 31, 2017.
Reappointed Bob Ashman as a member of the County Planning Board for three years, until Dec. 27, 2019.
Approved $178,000 additional to Sadat Associates Inc. for professional engineering and site remediation of a former county-owned landfill on Fulling Mill Road, Lower Township, as part of the formal closure of the site.
