CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council awarded a contract to the Atlantic City Jitney Association for transportation services May 7. The move was part of a set of recommendations the city received from its Parking Advisory Committee.
Those recommendations included a move to “performance pricing” which was adopted in April, setting higher meter rates for parking in select areas immediately adjacent to the central downtown shopping district.
The recommendations also included allowing free parking on Beach Avenue east of Philadelphia Avenue and encouraging visitors to use that space by implementing a free and reliable transportation service.
A number of details must be worked out with the Jitney Association concerning routes, stops, and similar issues.
The Jitney Association sets rules and standards for almost 200 independent owner/operators.
