‘It’s Better in the Crest’ Logo Wins Final OK

Wildwood Crest Logo - Use This One

By Vince Conti

WILDWOOD CREST – From the Pledge of Allegiance to the conclusion of public comment, Wildwood Crest Borough Commission meeting ran less than 30 minutes. The Dec. 28 meeting was largely aimed at agenda items that tidied up the books at year end with resolutions approving canceling of various checks, approval of fund transfers, and adopting a successor collective bargaining agreement for sanitation workers and drivers that goes into effect Jan. 1, 2016.
Amid routine business, commissioners unanimously approved a resolution adopting the new logo and slogan.
The two-toned “C,” with a wave through it, was discussed at a previous meeting before being adopted. The slogan, “It’s Better in the Crest,” is meant to speak to tourists and residents.
A great deal of commission time recently has gone into issues that may impact the image of the Crest, including the debate over median strips on Pacific Avenue. The final resolution of that controversy awaits a January public vote.
The effort at a new logo and slogan is one in part aimed at creating a distinctive image for Wildwood Crest amid other communities that make up Five Mile Island.
The Crest, a family-friendly beach community, is often lumped in with its neighbor to the north in the minds of many tourists.
Wildwood Crest, sitting between Wildwood, with its famed boardwalk and amusement piers, and the more sedate Cape May, with its Victorian architecture, is exploring ways to better define itself to residents and visitors.
The action taken by commissioners on the new logo is only part of that effort. How the community carries new branding over into services and experience people have in the Crest will be the much harder part of the task.
In additional business, the commission passed on first reading a proposed ordinance aimed at “establishing a self-insurance model” for life insurance options.
No discussion occurred regarding the ordinance but a public hearing with be on the agenda for the Jan. 20 meeting.
