COURT HOUSE – At their April 21 virtual meeting, Middle Township Committee approved a resolution dropping the interest rate on late tax payments to zero for 30 days after the end of the regular 10-day grace period.
By law, the township cannot extend the grace period as it did with second-quarter sewer bills. This step represents alternative means for the township to provide help for property owners facing the financial impact of stay-at-home order due to the coronavirus.
Mayor Timothy Donohue reminded the public that individuals who do not pay the tax bill within the grace period will be considered delinquent. The township cannot change that. However, those individuals will pay no interest on their delinquent taxes if they complete payment within the added 30-day period.
