AVALON – Over two years ago, ICONA Golden Inn, a hotel property on the border between Avalon and Stone Harbor, requested two variances from the Avalon Planning/Zoning Board.
The variances would allow outside dining in the area of the hotel’s beach bar and along the front of the Avalon Brew Club. The hotel would also need permission from the borough to extend its liquor license to cover serving drinks in the dining locations.
Following initial difficulties in gaining the necessary variances, ICONA altered its plans, reduced the proposed seating and has returned to the borough for permission.
At the July 24 Avalon Borough Council meeting, the governing body went into closed executive session to consider, among other items, what the agenda stated was “potential agreement with ICONA Golden Inn regarding a portion of 79th Street.”
The hotel management company bought the Golden Inn in December 2015. The property saw a multimillion-dollar renovation along with the addition of the Brew Club.
