STONE HARBOR – At the April 3 meeting of the Stone Harbor Borough Council, there was a rushed effort to get a new noise ordinance introduced. As summer rapidly approaches, the borough needs to have an ordinance on its books that police can enforce.
For a municipal noise ordinance to be enforceable, it must be state approved. The existing ordinance was rejected when it was considered for state approval. That makes it non-enforceable.
The 10-page ordinance introduced is modeled after a state draft which everyone was confident would get state approval.
The new ordinance keeps the same decibel level standards as the existing ordinance but differences in a number of details can impact how the ordinance is enforced.
The revised ordinance will come up for a public hearing in May.
