OCEAN CITY – Thomas J. Mullineaux, an Ocean City Police detective, has been tapped as the city’s “Humane Law Enforcement Officer,” at the recommendation of Police Capt. Jay Prettyman.
City Council unanimously approved the appointment by resolution July 12.
For the past several years, the city relied on the Ocean City Humane Society for animal control.
But in January, then-Gov. Chris Christie signed a law transferring the responsibility of investigating animal cruelty cases to county prosecutors and local law enforcement. The new law requires each municipality to appoint at least one municipal humane law enforcement officer.
