CAPE MAY – By a resolution adopted Sept. 4, Cape May City Council, in a 3-2 split vote, replaced three city-appointed commissioners on the board of the Public Housing Authority.
Carol Boyd, Christopher Traficante, and Victor Faison replaced Frank Acker, Patricia Swain, and Thomas White. The three new members were appointed to five-year terms.
Acker took to the podium to criticize the manner in which the communication about the changes took place. He told the council that it needed to “treat people with a little more respect.”
Council member Bea Pessagno said the appointments were part of a pattern in which she and Roger Furlin were systematically left out of consultations regarding committee and board appointments. “We have been marginalized,” she said.
Both Pessagno and Furlin voted no on the resolution. Mayor Clarence Lear, Deputy Mayor Shaine Meier and Council member Patricia Hendricks voted in the affirmative.
