WEST CAPE MAY— Cape May Police Department, West Cape May Volunteer Fire Department, and the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad responded to the area of 410 Fourth Ave. on September 11 about 9:13 a.m. after a resident, while excavating her property, discovered a hand grenade.
Police evacuated neighboring residents while awaiting arrival of the bomb disposal unit. According to Cape May Police Officer Eric Lashley, the bomb squad analyzed and x-rayed the device and determined that it was not live.
The device was then removed from the area by the State Police.
