Here are the results for the Herald’s reader poll about the government shutdown. The online poll received a total of 1,390 responses.
We asked readers if they were in favor of or opposed to using a government shutdown as leverage to stop Obamacare?
A total of 303 readers were in favor of the use of the shutdown while 1,035 readers were opposed to it. In total, 77 percent of readers who answered the poll were against the use of the shutdown.
We also asked readers which political party they were most affiliated with: Independent, Republican, or Democrat?
A total of 528 said Independent, 422 said Democrat, and 392 said Republican. So, 39 percent of the readers who answered the poll said that they were Independent. Republican and Democrat numbers were close to being evenly split with 31 percent of readers answering Democrat and 29 percent answering Republican.
