PETERSBURG – Upper Township Engineer Paul Dietrich updated Township Committee members Feb. 11 about the status of the “Harbor Gateway” project underway at Beesley’s Point.
“We’re going to have much better conditions for boaters and all users of this beach and launch area of the township,” said Dietrich. “Moreover, the county is using our project as a branding and design focal initiative and for a case study of 3-D perspective modeling. These renderings will help in enhancing the amenities of the park we are creating as well as for the parking lot.”
Deputy Mayor Edward Barr noted, “Whatever the timeline for the completion of the Great Egg Harbor Bridge and the multi-purpose walkway along the bridge, we should push for opening the walkway as soon as possible. We’ve heard that Somers Point is holding back opening on their side to wait for a completed connection to our trails. But from our side, the walkway connects to the Harbor Gateway area which will be really popular for both residents and visitors just as Ocean City’s walkway along the Ninth Street Causeway there has become a destination.”
