Governor’s Office Meets with West Cape May Mayor and Commissioner

By Press Release

WEST CAPE MAY — Commissioner Carol Sabo and Mayor Pam Kaithern recently met with Dominick Fiorilli, Regional Director Intergovernmental Affairs and NJ Governor’s Office.
“Mr. Fiorilli visited West Cape May to speak with us and review the concerns of our citizens and issues facing small communities,” said Kaithern. “We discussed how we were able to work with Governor Christie’s budget caps and also to achieve a reduction in real estate taxes; a rare scenario in the state with less than 5 % of all communities offering a reduction,” Kaithern continued.
“Issues pertaining to affordability of living in NJ, flood insurance and the rising costs associated with new regulations brought on by super storm Sandy were also reviewed,” said Sabo. “We discussed County and State entities being understaffed causing stress on the systems that are needed to support municipalities. Additionally, we discussed the concerns of being swallowed up by a larger municipality and losing our small town character, while at the same time, finding ways to be even more efficient and continue to save taxpayer dollars,” continued Sabo.
“All in all, it was a great opportunity to meet with the Governor’s staff, face to face, and discuss the needs of our community here in West Cape May. This type of open dialogue makes a difference for all of us who call New Jersey home,” Kaithern summarized.
