TRENTON – Gov. Phil Murphy launched the Department of Agriculture’s Jersey Fresh Wine Program Aug. 31. It is a new initiative aimed at educating consumers about the large varieties of wine produced in New Jersey, according to a release.
Murphy toured a Camden County winery with Department of Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher as part of the push to educate and connect consumers to state-grown wines.
“New Jersey is proud to be the Garden State, and our wineries are allowing our agricultural heritage to flourish anew,” stated Murphy. “New Jersey is becoming a force not only in our nation’s wine scene, but we are making waves around the world. The Jersey Fresh Wine Program will help connect more consumers with wineries across our state, and allow more people to have their eyes opened to the outstanding quality of New Jersey wine.”
The Jersey Fresh Wine promotional program will include a new toolbox on the Find Jersey Fresh website that will use an interactive map to make it easier for residents and visitors to find wineries across the state.
“The continuing growth of the wine industry in New Jersey has allowed it to make a major impact on the state’s agricultural landscape,” Fisher stated. “That we are now able to partner New Jersey’s wineries with our Jersey Fresh brand will only elevate the awareness of the high quality and unique wines that are produced right here in the Garden State.”
New Jersey’s wine industry has increased by nearly 40 percent in the past five years, making wine a $320 million industry that provides nearly 2,000 jobs for New Jersey residents.
