Freeholders OK Architect’s Extra Work on Stone Harbor Library Branch

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders approved a $69,000 change order with Settembrino Architects of Red Bank for the proposed Stone Harbor branch library. The board’s unanimous action took place at the Feb. 10 meeting. It was the first change order on the long-awaited project.
Constitutional officers, County Clerk Rita Fulginiti, Surrogate M. Susan Sheppard and Sheriff Gary Schaffer submitted five-year plans to the freeholders, as required by law. Each outlined plans for their respective offices and staff that will be funded in part by surcharge fees by their offices.
In other action the board:
Authorized Donna Tweed, via professional service contract through the Prosecutor’s Office, to make death pronouncements in the county as needed until Jan. 4, 2016.
Opposed oil drilling off the state’s coastline, citing the damage a spill could have on the tourism industry by fouling beaches and nearby waters.
Authorized the fourth of five year agreement with Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern N.J., Inc. for a $23,316 Hispanic community social service linkage program for county residents.
Approved renewal of a $60,000 contract (the fourth year of five) with Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County for free medical clinic for the Human Services Department.
Renewed agreement with Coalition Against Rape and Abuse Inc. for domestic violence shelter services in the county for $74,335.
Designated Cape Counseling Services Inc. as Intoxicated Driver Resource Center for 2015 “with the revenue generated by the required fees.”
Authorized county departments to use various media (including this publication) for promotional marketing without public advertising for bids permitted by law.
Permitted Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Atlantic and Cape May Counties to hold its “Wild Walk for Kids” in the County Park April 11.
Granted permission for the Somerset Wheelmen to conduct bicycle time trials on Court House-South Dennis Road (CR 657) April 12 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and to use part of the zoo parking lot. The club must make its own arrangements with Middle Township to arrange for traffic control officers during the event.
Approved change order for $170,352 to Asphalt Paving Systems Inc. for Bay Avenue (CR 656) resurfacing improvements from Sixth Street to 18th Street, Ocean City.
Approved change order with MJJ Construction LLC in amount of $63,497 for the new snow leopard exhibit at the County Zoo. Extra work needed to be done in order to complete the project.
