COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Freeholder Will Morey and the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders congratulated the Cape May-Lewes Ferry on its upcoming 50th Anniversary on July 1, 2014 at their meeting held on June 10, 2014. The Ferry made its grand debut, carrying eight vehicles and fifteen passengers departing from Lewes, Delaware at 6:47 a.m. on July 1, 1964, initiating the very first official crossing fifty years ago.
Since that time, more than 43 million passengers and over 14 million vehicles have made the scenic trip across the Delaware Bay. Freeholder Morey said, “The Cape May-Lewes Ferry not only provides our residents and visitors with an alternative mode of transportation but also a wonderful way to see the many attractions that our region has to offer.”
The Cape May–Lewes Ferry has state-of-the-art vessels equipped with the latest technology to ensure safety and convenience. Also, the Ferry hosts a variety of seasonal events for all to enjoy either on board or at both terminal locations. Additionally, the eighty-five minute ride connecting New Jersey and Delaware has provided the perfect solution to shorten travel time between the two states, while providing many fun happenings for all to partake.
