Freeholders Award $5.3-million Contract For Wildwood Crest Branch Library Work

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders awarded a $5.3-million contract to renovate Wildwood Crest branch of the County Library system to Aliano Brothers General Contractors of Vineland at the March 25 meeting. The firm was the lowest of four bidders, highest bid was for $5.85 million. The Atlantic Avenue structure was formerly Hereford Masonic Lodge.
In other actions the board:
• Approved professional service agreements with 20 firefighting instructors for the County Fire Marshal’s
Office on an as-needed basis. The resolution may not exceed $29,000.
Instructors were: Mark Barham, Walter Belles, William Dukes, Timothy Gay, Robert Hansson, Dale Gentek, Michael Haggerty, Frank Lafferty, Sandra LaMonica, Leon Woodruff, Ronald Martinelli, Robert P. Mazur, Nancy McDevitt, William Mulligan, Christopher Parke, Michael Scardino, Daniel Speigel, Peter Stafford, Richard Sweeten, Sean McDevitt.
• Commemorated the 193rd anniversary of Greek Independence Day March 25. In tribute, the Greek flag was flown at the County Administration Building March 23. Members of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church mark the day with a ceremony in North Wildwood.
• Designated March 25 as Student Government Day when students nine county high schools took part in the freeholder meeting.
• Awarded contract for $25,735 to Gibson Tarquini Group Inc. to provide a needs assessment for the Superior Courthouse on North Main Street, Court House. Purchasing Agent Kim Allen said there were eight proposals submitted that ranged from $25,000 to $99,000.
• Passed an equitable sharing agreement and certification for the County Prosecutor’s Office to take part in the federal equitable sharing program for use of federally forfeited cash, property, proceeds and any interest earned, which can be shared by participating agencies.
• Appointed Barry Keefe as new member of the Human Services Advisory Council to bill unexpired term of Barbara Makoski, beginning April 1 and ending Dec. 31, 2016.
• On behalf of the Department of Mosquito Control, agreed to a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and Atlantic City Electric Co. to create and restore vernal pools to recover state-endangered Eastern Tiger Salamander. The salamanders need “a safe, stable body of water in which to grow, they become a natural integrated pest management program to control mosquito larvae with the use of pesticides,” the resolution stated. The small ponds are within the utility’s jurisdiction.
• Reappointed Maryanne K. Murphy to the Cape May County Bridge Commission for a three-year term ending May 1, 2017. She serves as secretary-treasurer of the commission, according to a March 11 to the board from Linda Gilles, interim executive director.
• Approved a professional services agreement starting March 13, and continuing for eight weeks to provide customized Management, Supervisory Development Program for county employees for $6,400.
• Awarded to MJJ Construction LLC a $482,000 contract to erect a new leopard exhibit at the Cape May County Zoo. The firm was lowest of eight bidders, the highest being $642,000.
• Granted permission to DelMoSports, Inc. to use county roads for the June 8 “Escape the Cape Triathlon” after participants leap from a Cape May-Lewes ferry in Delaware Bay.
• Increased by $31,175 the ceiling amount of Hatch Mott MacDonald’s professional services agreement at Building 12 at Cape May County Airport. The original contract was for site remediation at the building was for removal of chemicals and universal waste in preparation for demolition.
• Awarded to Traffic Lines Inc. a $125,432 contract, lowest of three bidders, to provide pavement markings throughout the county.
