Freeholder Actions: Online Auction OK’d for Sale of Old Computers

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN – Itching for a computer, monitor or printer, but don’t want to pay a high price? Look for some Cape May County surplus government equipment on www.govdeals.com. Freeholders approved a resolution July 8 to sell, via an online auction, a number of unneeded computers and similar gear.
At the same meeting, the board approved a resolution amending the county budget for $341,139 that will be used to “support older adults with services, such as home meal delivery, state health insurance assistance, thus allowing them to maintain independence and quality of life.”
In other actions the board:
• Terminated a subcontract with Cape Counseling Services, Inc. for court community companion service in the amount of $20,895. The resolution stated grant funding came from the Juvenile Justice Commissioner for services to at-risk or court-involved youths. Cape Counseling agreed to cancel the contract and released the county under its 60-day cancellation clause. The action was taken, “Due to the utilization of the program declining and other programs that have experienced an increased demand…”
• Reappointed Jane Elwell and Michael T. Palombo as member of Cape May County Special Services School District for three years expiring June 30, 2017.
• Reappointed various members of Atlantic Cape Workforce Investment Board for four years expiring June 30, 2018: Bryon Hunter, Dr. Nancy Hudanich, George Plewa and Sara Maloney.
• Recognized the state’s major military assets for the economic benefit they provide. Those include Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Picatinny Arsenal, Naval Weapons Station Earle, 177th Air National Guard Wing in Atlantic City and Coast Guard Training Center Cape May. The resolution cited a Rutgers Economic Advisor Service study that measured the value to the state’s economy of those installations. It stated the federal government spent $4.8 billion in the state, generated 45,600 jobs which pay $2.6 billion in salaries and add $3.8 billion of wealth to state residents.
• Awarded open-end contracts for furnishing rock salt to Oceanport LLC of Claymont, Del. for $73.52 a ton and Morton Salt Inc. of Chicago, Ill for $74.93, as secondary.
• Approved contract documents for Two Mile Beach Bicycle Access construction in Lower Township and for Stagecoach Road at Evergreen Drive drainage improvements in Upper Township. Bids will be received Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. for those projects.
• Authorized the county to sign documents for demolition of Beesley’s Point Bridge. While the county bought the bridge for $1, and owns it, the state Department of Transportation has agreed with the county and N.J. Turnpike Authority to demolish the span. Various parts have already been removed, and the authority is replacing the southbound Great Egg Harbor Bay and Drag Channel bridges.
