CREST HAVEN – Those who are pregnant, a recovery worker or homeowner who was involved with the massive clean-up post Super Storm Sandy, or any child age 1-18 qualifies for a free blood lead level test. Through a grant partially funded by the N.J. Department of Health, Social Services Block Grant-Supplemental, and Superstorm Sandy Recovery, Cape May and Cumberland counties are offering free blood lead screenings in Cape May County.
Just three minutes now can put persons on track for a lifetime of better health, learning, and development. The simple finger stick is easier than other tests, and participants obtain rapid results which mean they will know what to do immediately to reduce their risk of lead poisoning.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that there is no safe blood lead level. Evidence continues to grow that any blood lead level detected can lead to learning difficulties, developmental delays and behavior problems. The only way to know one’s blood lead level is to be tested.
For information, and to find out how to get a free blood lead test, call Cape May County Health Department at 609-463-4122 or the Cumberland County Department of Health at 856-327-7602.
