Flynn to Gain Tenure

COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee introduced an ordinance July 17 which, when adopted, will grant tenure to Robert Flynn, municipal superintendent of Public Works.
An employee with tenure no longer serves at the discretion of the governing body. Once tenured the individual may only be dismissed for cause following written charges and a public hearing.
Mayor Michael Clark said that the township has three tenured employees, an employment status that is set by statute for the tax collector, municipal clerk, and assessor. State law also maintains a special tenured status for the chief financial officer after that individual serves four years and is reappointed. Tenure status does not entitle the holder to special compensation.
Revised state statutes in 2014 established tenure for a superintendent of Public Works who has served five continuous years in that office.
