TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Assembly Republican Sam Fiocchi that provides college scholarships for the children of military men and women who died or were permanently disabled in recent armed conflicts around the globe was signed into law today.
The bill (A-2849), the “Military Dependents Scholarship Fund Act,” provides higher education funding for spouses and children of military personnel who were casualties of Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Operation New Dawn.
“This law is an important way to express our gratitude to those who gave their lives defending freedom,” said Fiocchi, R-Cumberland, Cape May and Atlantic. “Their survivors will be able to further their education and have the opportunity to build a career. The children of these fallen heroes now have a chance to reach their full potential by accessing the funds from these scholarships.”
Fiocchi’s bill establishes the Military Dependents Scholarship Fund in the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority. Scholarships will pay for undergraduate study at a public or private institution.
