Fighting Melanoma

Avalon sunscreen dispenser.

By Vince Conti

AVALON – In a partnership with the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation, Avalon will install two sunscreen dispensers at the 30th Street Beach Tag office and the 39th Street playground. The foundation provides the dispensers and sunscreen. The borough will be responsible for maintaining the dispensers.
Borough Administrator Scott Wahl said that the effort would be coupled with an educational program instructing residents and visitors about the dangers of melanoma and the value of sunscreen protection.
The playground is deemed an appropriate location given the foundation’s goal “to educate children throughout the country and give them the skills necessary to make healthy sun safety choices.”
