COURT HOUSE — Through $803,979 granted to Middle Township through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), repairs to two Middle Township roads that were damaged by Superstorm Sandy have begun.
The severe storm undermined the roadways and retention walls/bulkheads at South Beach Avenue and at Benny’s Landing Road. Both areas will be restored to their pre-disaster condition. Work on South Beach Avenue will include replacement of the asphalt roadway, concrete sidewalks, wooden water boxes and 300 linear feet of retention wall/bulkhead. Benny’s Landing Road will undergo replacement of concrete sidewalks and 175 linear feet of planking and piles that comprise the retention wall/bulkhead.
“We’re glad to finally see these long overdue repairs taking place,” Mayor Tim Donohue said. “It was worth the wait to ensure that FEMA funding covers the cost of this storm related damage. We hope the improvements engineered into these plans will build new resiliency and mitigate damage from future storms.”
Work is expected to be complete by mid-Nov.
