Feed Mall-area Meters Longer

By Vince Conti

CAPE MAY – Responding to the business community, Cape May City Council adopted an ordinance May 1 that extends the period for active parking meters near the Washington Street Mall. The move is intended to combat the practice of employees of city establishments using parking space in the mall area as soon as the meters are taken down.
These changes mean that meters will be active from April 1 to Dec. 31 on both sides of Carpenter’s Lane from Ocean to Perry streets; both sides of Lyle Lane from Perry to Decatur streets; and the south side of Mansion Street from Jackson to Perry streets.
The current schedule of active meters from May 1 to Oct. 31 will remain in effect for all other areas of the city.
