Federal Reimbursement Approved for February Snow Storm

By Herald Staff

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie announced that the federal government has approved the State of New Jersey’s award for federal disaster reimbursement to cover damages and costs related to the severe snow storms which impacted southern counties on Feb. 5 and 6.
The reimbursement award has been directed to the counties of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem for the purposes of Public Assistance (assistance to state and local governments for debris removal related to the snow storm.)
“This much needed reimbursement will allow the affected counties to properly recover from one of the most devastating snow storms that our state has seen in years,” said Christie.
On March 5, Christie sent a request for federal disaster assistance to the White House after a comprehensive storm damage assessment led by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) in conjunction with federal, county and local officials.
“The federal reimbursement approval is a direct result of the hard work, determination and strength displayed by our state’s first responders and residents during this challenging event,” Christie added.
Moving forward, the state will host applicant briefings beginning the first week in April. Additionally, NJOEM will continue to work with FEMA officials until the conclusion of the reimbursement process in New Jersey.
