Fare Free Transportation Awarded NJ ‘Outstanding Transportation System’ of the Year

COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Fare Free Transportation was named the Outstanding Transportation System of the Year by The New Jersey Council on Special Transportation (COST) at their Annual Expo in Edison, NJ Oct. 10, 2017.  COST selects from transportation agencies throughout the state including all 21 county agencies as well as private and  non-profit agencies providing service anywhere in the state.
Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, Liaison for Fare Free Transportation, reported, “I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of the Director and Staff at Fare Free, not only for this award, but they recently received Safety and Security Accreditation in the State of New Jersey. Cape May County Fare Free is the only transportation agency to earn accreditation by the Community Transportation Association of America, and they were also nominated for national recognition as the Outstanding Rural Transportation Agency of the Year. “
“This award brings a great pride to Cape May County, but more importantly it honors and recognizes the commitment of the employees who provide this invaluable service to the residents.  I speak for the entire Board of Freeholders in congratulating the director and staff at Fare Free Transportation,” Hayes added.
                                                                                                                                   
In announcing the award, Fare Free Director, Dan Mulraney explained, “Over the course of the past three years, Fare Free Transportation has received awards in various categories including Dispatcher of the Year, Driver of the Year and Administrative Professional of the Year.  Ending 2017 with the with prestigious award, Outstanding Transportation System of the Year, acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the staff .”
Fare Free transportation has 38 paratransit vehicles, all equipped with wheel chair lifts, 27 of those vehicles are on the road at peak service. On average, they provide approximately 500 trips per day and travel over 1.4 million miles annually.  They provided 117,424 one way trips to all areas of Cape May County last year, including several locations in Atlantic County, Cooper Hospital in Camden, various medical facilities in Philadelphia and the VA hospital in Wilmington, DE.  They also have eight Meals on Wheels drivers, who provide approximately 86,000 hot and cold meals to home bound clients throughout Cape May County each year.
Fare Free Transportation provides service to all residents of Cape May County. The program receives funding for the transportation of Senior Citizens, disabled residents, veteran and individuals with low income through various state and federal grants. Funding for the program is also provided by the County of Cape May as approved by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
