Expenditures Added to Upper’s Budget

By Vince Conti

PETERSBURG – There was little sign of the divided budget vote that had characterized the previous meeting at the regular Upper Township Committee meeting April 28; however, a concern over expenditures was still evident.
A total of $5,000 was added back into the budget from grants that were not final at the earlier date. A resolution to authorize the expenditure of $149,949 dollars for a new 10-foot bed dump truck was tabled for more information. Amendments to fees charged for land use approval were also the subject of an ordinance introduced at the meeting.
In other expenditure related items, committee approved two shared services agreements with the county for funding improvements to Amanda Field and ADAAA upgrades to the Bayview Boat Ramp.
Committee authorized preparation of specifications and a solicitation of bids for one automated refuse collection vehicle.
Committeeman Antonio Inserra earlier advocated the move as a way to increase efficiency with trash pickup.
Currently, the township uses both automated trucks and two -oading trucks. Since the automated trucks require only a driver to operate, Inserra expects that the new truck would allow the township to move workers to other areas where they are needed.
Committee congratulated the Upper Township Girls Varsity Basketball Team. The team won the 2014 Optimist Basketball Tournament Championship.
Roger Van Order, an employee of the Public Works department, received praise for his winning entry in the Upper Township Safety Award Program for the second quarter of 2014.
