STONE HARBOR – Since December 2017, Stone Harbor residents have had access to governing body meetings through video recordings, which are uploaded to the municipal website within 24 hours of a meeting.
The stationary camera arrangement captures the council’s work session and monthly business meetings, and allows for review by members of the public who could not attend.
At an Aug. 6 Stone Harbor Borough Council meeting, Council President Joselyn Rich suggested expanding the video access by recording Planning and Zoning Board meetings.
Mayor Judith Davies-Dunhour supported the idea. She added she would also support video recordings of meetings of council’s standing committees.
“Anything we do to send out more information to the public is a good thing,” Davies-Dunhour said.
The discussion stood in stark contrast to the continuing refusal to videotape council meetings in Avalon. There, after multiple failed attempts to gain council support for the measure, one resident took up the task. Martha Wright records council meetings on her smartphone, then uploads them to a website for access.
Avalon officials have maintained that there is no widespread public support for videotaping meetings.
