CREST HAVEN — An 11-year-old boy donated $600 to the Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center at the Tue., July 26 freeholders’ meeting.
Described as “a special young man,” by Vice Director Leonard Desiderio, who presided at the meeting in Director Daniel Beyel’s absence, Neil Goldenthal said he has made the cause to “better lives of homeless animals” his chief concern for the past four years.
Goldenthal told Desiderio he raises money, then “split’s the money three or four ways,” with animal centers among them. Other recipients of Goldenthal’s donations included an animal sanctuary in Utah and another in Tennessee.
Goldenthal received a certificate from Desiderio, then had a photo session with the freeholder board then with shelter department head Sheriff Gary G. Schaffer and shelter manager Judith Davies- Dunhour.
Accompanying Goldenthal to the meeting were his mother, cousins and grandparents, who own Springer’s Homemade Ice Cream in Stone Harbor.
“Ice cream for everyone,” joked Desiderio. “Put that (certificate) in Springer’s tonight.”
“I will,” said the young donor.
