TRENTON – Eight Cape May County municipalities received a combined total of just over $2.6 million in Small Cities Community Development Block Grants from the state Department of Community Affairs for various upgrades.
In a Jan. 17 release, the department announced the award of $6.75 million to “non-entitlement municipalities and counties” in 19 municipalities in six counties. They are all meant to benefit low-income, moderately-low income, senior citizens and those with disabilities.
The locally developed projects must meet at least one of three federal National Objectives which include:
* Activities that benefit low- and moderate-income persons.
* Aid in prevention or elimination of slums of light.
* Meet urgent community development needs because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community where other financial resources are unavailable to meet those needs.
