CREST HAVEN — Winners of the 2011 Cape May County Earth Day Logo Contest were announced at the April 12 freeholders’ meeting.
The county-sponsored contest is held annually to draw attention to the county’s Earth Day Celebration, set for May 7 at Cape May County Park and Zoo.
First place winner was Morgan Wheaton, of Cape May County Technical High School. It states “Fragile, Handle With Care” with letters appearing to grow roots in the earth. The entry will appear on 2011 Earth Day T-shirts. Wheaton, who was absent from the meeting, will get a $75 Savings Bond a plaque and “goodie ” bag from the county.
Second place winner was Nicole Moya of Middle Township High School. She received a $50 savings bond and goodie bag.
Third place winner was Hannah Wilcoxen of Margaret Mace School. She received a $50 savings bond and goodie bag.
Earth Day will begin at 9 a.m. with a 5K Earth Day Run followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mascot Race, that will feature various larger than life mascots from county and private organizations.
The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A guided one-mile walk will take place at 11 a.m.
Eco-shops, music and children’s activities anda craft show will also take place.
