Drone Use Regulated

Stone Harbor Logo

By Vince Conti

STONE HARBOR – On Nov. 6 Stone Harbor Borough Council adopted an ordinance to regulate the use of unmanned aircraft (drones) within the borough.
The ordinance largely bans the use of drones for personal, recreational or most business reasons while allowing exceptions for activities like photographing homes for sale and other limited business uses.
In those situations where the drone use would be allowed, a borough permit is required, and all state, federal and local regulations must be met.
Penalties include a $500 fine for a first violation and a $1,000 fine plus a potential 30-day jail sentence for subsequent offenses.
