Drivers, No Wake Allowed

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City Council approved an ordinance April 9 that prohibits motorists from sending waves of water over the curb line when street flooding is at least six inches deep. Sea Isle City is following the lead of other shore towns like Ship Bottom and North Wildwood in creating “no wake” zones in an effort to protect homes and businesses from damage. Some homeowners and businesses in the past had garage doors and other property damaged by drivers speeding through floodwaters creating a wake. Under the new ordinance, violators could face a maximum fine of $1,250 and up to 90 days in jail. It is anticipated that signage would be erected in flood-prone areas warning against creating a wake.
