ERMA – During October, Lower Cape May Regional High School Resource Officer Michael Perry of the Lower Township Police Department, instructed 10th grade drivers education students on the effects of alcohol and drugs, and provided an over view of DWI laws,
During the classes SRO Perry utilized Fatal Vision Goggles that simulate the effects of alcohol to show the student such things as how depth perception and hand eye coordination are affected by alcohol. This was accomplished by having students perform simple tasks for example simple balance and coordination tests.
The students are first asked to perform these tasks without the goggles, then with them on. Most students were unable to complete the tasks do to the effects of the goggles. This helps to provide the students with an understanding of the dangers of drinking and driving.
