CREST HAVEN – Freeholders approved, as part of the Nov. 10 meeting, a salary resolution that named, among others, Middle Township Mayor Timothy Donohue as acting road supervisor in the Road Department at $60,000 annually.
He is a replacement for Francis McCall, who held that job after being transferred from Office of Emergency Management, where he had been director.
The effective date of Donohue’s hire was Nov. 2. The position is listed as “unclassified” full time. View the complete salary resolution and others here.
Donohue is the third Cape May County mayor on the county payroll. The others are Sea Isle City Mayor and Freeholder Vice Director Leonard Desiderio, whose freeholder salary is $17,973 and Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi, emergency management coordinator, whose salary is $82,400.
North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello is chairman of the Cape May County Bridge Commission, a separate entity. Commissioners receive an annual salary of $8,500.
Open Space Board
Members of the Open Space Review Board were reappointed as follows: Michael T. McLaughlin of Court House, ends Dec. 1, 2016; Dave Craig of Cape May, ends Dec. 31, 2016; Peter Lomax of Court House, ends June 1, 2017.
In other action the board:
- Opposed increasing the motor fuel tax in order to subsidize the Transportation Trust Fund. The action takes sides against bills in the Senate and Assembly that, if enacted, would cost the average motorist an estimated $300 annually. The money would cover infrastructure improvements. The board felt any increase would be an “undue hardship on the taxpayers” as well as escalating delivery costs of commodities.
- Approved a resolution allowing the county to be reimbursed by the federal government nearly $3.6 million for reconstructing the entire length of Commonwealth Avenue in Strathmere.
- Approved a professional services agreement with Awareness Protective Consultants LLC of Piscataway to provide active shooter training for county dispatchers in the Office of Emergency Management from Jan. 1 to May 1, 2016 for $4,925.
- Granted Dennis Township permission to close portions of Fidler Road (CR 638) and Petersburg Road (CR 610) Dec. 3 for the Christmas parade which begins at 6 p.m.
- Accepted $20,500 in grant funds from the state for cooperative marketing for the Department of Tourism “to promote specific tourism opportunities in New Jersey to out-of-state markets.” The program continues from Sept. 30, 2015 to Dec. 31, 2016.
- Approved a resolution to apply to the National Rifle Association for the purchase of Eddie Eagle mascot costume. Its purpose is to teach children firearm accident prevention, and what to do should they find a firearm.
