COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue filed his petition with Municipal Clerk Kim Krauss today as the Republican candidate for Middle Township Committee in 2014. Donohue, who is seeking his second term on Committee, became Mayor in January of this year.
“I’m honored and humbled to file my petition to seek reelection to Middle Township Committee,” Donohue said. “Three years ago our supporters signed my petition based on promises made. I’m proud to say that this time around they have signed based on promises kept.”
Donohue believes a solid foundation for smarter and more affordable government has been laid the past three years. He credited better long term planning, a commitment to hiring excellent leadership, investments in employee wellness and training and a more open and responsive relationship with Township residents, for bringing a more positive atmosphere to Town Hall.
“It’s not about party politics,” Donohue said. “It’s about sticking to your principles and getting results for the people of Middle Township. We came into office with a plan to end a decade of double digit tax increases and improve local government at the same time. This has required some tough decision-making. But we have partnered with our great employees to put the interests of our taxpayers first. We have slammed the brakes on spending increases while implementing innovative approaches to drive down the long term costs of local government.”
Donohue, who lives in Cape May Court House with his wife Carole and daughter Juliana, works as a Restaurant Project Manager for Kelly Products Co., Inc. He said a primary focus of his second term would be improving the climate for Middle Township’s small businesses.
“Our philosophy from day one has been that a well run town will attract and retain well run businesses,” Donohue said. “Businesses can now look to Middle Township and see a government with its spending under control, fair and equitable tax assessments and clear zoning regulations based on an approved Master Plan. Our town has its legal house in order and our Township Departments are moving towards facilitating, not hindering, sound and responsible business development.”
The Mayor said he looks forward to the hard work of many committed residents finally paying off in the immediate future. Donohue said when residents gain more confidence in their local government and feel like their elected official are listening, they are more inclined to step up and get involved.
“It’s been a real group effort by our employees, professionals and volunteer boards to bring several important initiatives to fruition,” Donohue said. “Work is about to finally begin on the Ocky Wisting Recreation Complex. We expect to have approval of our plan to connect our bike path with Lower Township’s any day. Our new Animal Welfare Board is forming and our Environmental Commission will be overseeing the planting of more than thirteen hundred trees in the Township in the next two years. We are coordinating with nonprofits and multiple state and federal agencies to ensure the protection and resiliency of our bay shore. Our Economic Development Committee is working hard to support local businesses and attract new entrepreneurs. Within the next sixty days we will begin a partnership with the Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro to better utilize the Old Whitesboro School House to the benefit of all our residents. An innovative partnership with local social services agencies will bring a very positive change in how we deal with the placement of the homeless and paroled offenders in Rio Grande.”
Donohue said the most satisfying part of his job was bringing residents together to do good work.
“Real leadership is about finding the common ground and community goals we all share and bringing good people together to do good work. We all want a better future and more opportunities for our families,” Donohue explained. “We don’t need to look to Washington or Trenton for solutions. Working together right here, anything is possible. ”
