COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township Committee work session March 18, was to include a presentation by a developer looking to build a townhome and apartment complex along the bike path on the site of the old cement factory in Rio Grande.
Mayor Timothy Donohue said the presentation was postponed at the last minute and would probably happen at one of the April meetings of the governing body.
The proposal for the site, designated as an area in need of redevelopment, was for a community of 77 townhomes which would be individually sold and a rental apartment complex with 144 units. Donohue said the township’s land-use ordinance would lead to a 20 percent set aside in the apartment complex for affordable housing occupancy.
Responding to a question, Donohue said that issues of potential tax abatements and/or a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) arrangement would be part of discussions with the potential developer.
“We will take our time and make sure that what we do is in the best interest of the township,” Donohue said.
