Departments Assigned in County Reorganization

CREST HAVEN — Assignment of departments as directors to the five Cape May County freeholders was done Jan. 5 at reorganization. For the year they include:
Gerald M. Thornton: Administration, Revenue and Finance, Emergency Management.
Leonard C. Desiderio: Public Safety
E. Marie Hayes: Tourism and Public Information, Public Offices, Transportation
Will Morey: Planning, Education, Engineering and Economic Development.
Kristine Gabor: Health and Human Services
In addition to the above, freeholder members of Boards of School Estimate were named.
For Special Services School District and Technical School District. For both they are Director Gerald Thornton, Freeholders E. Marie Hayes and Will Morey.
Thornton and Gabor were appointed for one year as members of the Board of Social Services. As voting members of the N.J. Association of Counties for one year, Thornton, Hayes as alternate, and Director of Operations Michael Laffey as second alternate. The organization “serves as an advocacy group for county governments and their taxpayers and promotes federal and state legislative initiatives that advance county interests,” according to the resolution.
Appointed to the Planning Board for the year were Thornton and Morey.
Freeholder meetings are generally held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, unless otherwise advised. A caucus meeting open to the public but the public may not participate, is held 90 minutes prior to each regular meeting.
On the second Tuesday, regular meeting is 7 p.m., with caucus at 5:30 p.m.
On the four Tuesday, regular meeting is 4:30 p.m., with caucus at 3 p.m.
Per rules of the board, “No member (of the public) shall speak in debate more than 10 minutes on any subject under debate at the same meeting, without the consent of a majority of the members of the board.”
