DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee combined its reorganization with its regular meeting Jan. 5 for which a number of local politicians attended as well.
Julie Fry-DeRose, a Republican, took her oath of office for three years from Freeholder Vice Director Leonard Desiderio.
DeRose, a nurse, had been quoted as stating, “I have nothing personal against Al (former committeeman Albert DiCicco) but right now there is no one on township committee who has children who are currently in our schools and recreation programs. I think those points of view should be represented on township committee. Our local parents deserve a voice in our local government.”
Committee unanimously passed a number of resolutions related to reorganization.
One was for the election of Mayor John Murphy for another one-year term and another for the appointment of Deputy Mayor Brian O’Connor for one year.
Murphy took his oath from Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-1st) and O’Connor took his oath of office from Assemblyman Robert Andrzejczak (D-1st).
A resolution appointed Fry as a member of the governing body to the Consolidated Land Use Board, Class III. Fry will also assume DiCicco’s role on the Environmental Commission as part of the various departmental assignments and responsibilities each committee member undertakes.
In an opportunity to hear updates from each member, Lisa Salimbene announced that the Senior Center piano had been tuned through the “incredibly generous and kind “gift of Fran and Jerry Davis for which “the township is very appreciative.”
Salimbene also announced that the Senior Center will hold two luncheons for upcoming holidays. Feb. 10 will be the Valentine event and March 16 will be the event for St. Patrick’s Day which is slated to have a presentation on car safety, a topic of interest to the township’s seniors, by the Woodbine state troopers.
Pastor Fred Marz of the local United Methodist Church gave both the invocation and Benediction. “I am newly arrived as of July and have found the township to be a great place to live and very well managed,” said Marz.
Salimbene added “You were so helpful for the Thanksgiving basket program and I’ve heard great things about you, thank you.”
Murphy summed up sentiments of committee when he concluded, “The challenges don’t get any different year after year, let’s all work together and do good things.”
