Dennis Twp. Reduces Campground Permits, Renames Rink

By Press Release

DENNISVILLE – The Dennis Township Committee, at the Dec. 4, 2012 meeting, reduced the number of campground permits from 15 to 14 and named the hockey rink in honor of a young player who passed away while playing on the rink.
“After some of our residents raised concerns about the potential addition of another campground, I did some due diligence and found that the only reason we had a fifteenth permit was because of a court order back in 1994,” said Mayor Gene Glembocki. “The reasons for the court order and the party that obtained the permit from the court are long gone. Our ordinance also says that a dormant permit will be gone after two years. I think we are on solid ground to eliminate the fifteenth permit. Fourteen campgrounds seems plenty to me and it is clear that our predecessors on Township Committee thought that was the right number.”
In 1994, a company had obtained CAFRA and zoning approval for a campground but when the Township denied the permit, the Court stepped in.
“We are not in that situation today. No one has any type of approval so now is the time to act,” said Glembocki. The Committee introduced an ordinance to reduce the number of permits back to fourteen.
In other business, despite some opposition, Township Committee voted to name the recreation department’s hockey rink the Michael Fisher Memorial Hockey Rink. Michael Fisher was a 15 year old Dennis Township youth who passed away due to a heart condition while playing at the rink in 2010.
“I not only think we should do this,” said Committeeman Brian Teefy. “I think it is long overdue. Michael has been an inspiration to many people.” Committeeman Frank Germanio added, “This is a unique situation. This young man passed away at our rink. We have a donor prepared to pay for this sign in his honor. This is the right thing to do for this family and for our Township. In fact, I want to go even further, I think we should retire his number 6 from the hockey league.”
A motion to install the sign and dedicate the rink to Michael Fisher was then passed by the Committee.
