DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee met June 7 and unanimously approved the items on its consent agenda.
A motion was approved to acknowledge the Calvary Baptist Church’s sixth annual Walk/Run/Ride 4 Relief June 25 starting at 7 a.m. and running through to 3 p.m.
Committee approved the discharge of fireworks during the township’s annual August “Night Out Against Crime.”
Committee member Lisa Salimbene gave a “heads-up” about the bookmobile which had been stationed at the Academy Road school during the academic year for access by students is moving to the post office for the summer.
Salimbene also talked about the recent Dennis Municipal Alliance Committee meeting which had as its focus “smoke-free environments.” That session included a speaker from a related civic association and emphasis on total smoke-free township parks and recreation areas.
Committee member Donald Tozer said that the Memorial Day celebration at the Belleplain Veterans of Foreign Wars post was a “huge success and even with the rain coming sideways we were able to nicely commemorate this important holiday with many in attendance.
“We just kept going despite the weather and eventually moved some of the ceremonies inside,” he continued.
Tozer described other VFW initiatives that will be taking place at the VFW grounds over the next few months. They included a June 11 concert and a circus.
“Local businesses have been generous with their donations and sponsorships. As a result, I have a lot of free children’s tickets, so please contact us for those,” Tozer said.
Dennis Township is marking a publishing milestone with this month’s release of a compendium of historical facts and anecdotes about the community.
This newest book is another in the “Images of America” series from Arcadia Publishing. “Introducing Dennis Township” by local historical experts Thomas Champion and Ray Rebmann, who is the volunteer director of the township’s Museum and History Center.
The authors will conduct a book signing at the Dennis Township Senior Center July 11 beginning at noon.
