DENNISVILLE – The township’s Chief Financial Officer Jessica Bishop informed governing body members that Dennis has “lucked out” this year with managing the eye-popping health premium increase for government employees. Bishop is referring to the 24% approved increase in health premiums put in place by the state.
“Since we’ve had employees move to Medicare coverage, retired or waived this benefit, overall we’ve only have a two percent increase,” Bishop explained.
Mayor Zeth Matalucci observed that because of the township’s best practices it has had the good fortune to not enact any tax increase for five years.
“With this type of hike it could be hard to maintain our policy of doing our utmost not to raise any tax burden on our residents. We’ll have to see how we manage going forward and hopefully, we won’t be getting any more increases like this year’s health premiums,” said Matalucci.
