DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee met for its regular meeting July 5. The major portion was dedicated to an overview presentation by Paul Miola, executive director of the Joint Insurance Fund (JIF), about the fund’s operation and its benefits to members.
The New Jersey Utility Authorities Joint Insurance Fund started operations Sept. 17, 1991, with 19 charter members. Its purpose was to provide affordable comprehensive insurance while reducing risk through claim management and safety programs for members.
Today the fund has grown to include 72 members throughout the state. “Although the number of memberships has increased, the fund’s mission remains to facilitate members’ affordable insurance with decreased risk,” explained Miola.
The fund offers a variety of insurance coverage options to municipal and sewage authorities. These options include workers’ compensation; general liability; auto liability; property/boiler and machinery; crime bond; auto physical damage; public officials/employment practices; environmental impairment liability coverage.
To complement the array of insurance, the JIF provides regularly scheduled, as well as special sessions, on safety. Under its “Safety Inspection Program” topics include site inspections and operational observations; checklists for maintenance and operations; cyber security for wastewater treatment facilities; workplace violence and active shooter training; ethics training; and equipment safety.
Committee approved a resolution which authorized the release of a performance bond related to site improvements by Patricia Moran, owner of Star Hollow Stables.
This resolution orders and directs the township’s chief financial officer to release $47,161 to Moran in the form of an irrevocable letter of credit and any remaining escrow fees.
Such release is to be effected providing professional fees have been satisfied and that the Cape Atlantic Conservation District has signed off on the release.
According to its website, Star Hollow Stables provides all manner of equine-related services and lessons including summer camp, boarding, riding lessons, shows, and is also a vendor to the Girl Scouts for horse-related merit badges.
