DENNISVILLE – Dennis Committee finalized, on second reading, an ordinance which supports the Belleplain Veterans of Foreign Wars post for its request to serve alcoholic beverages.
The ordinance was introduced at an earlier meeting to comply with state law regulating the serving of alcohol through a for-fee license.
Committee had wanted to provide a no-fee accommodation to the post but learned that would not be allowed under state provisions.
The ordinance provides for a “club license” at an annual cost of $63 for the Petrella-Repici-Caprioni-Champion Post 6257. That sum is the minimum allowed under state law.
The plenary retail consumption license, per the ordinance, is $1,200 annually and the plenary retail distribution license is $1,200 annually.
There were no public comments associated with the unanimous passage of the ordinance.
Equipment Purchases
Committee adopted a bond ordinance that authorizes the purchase of various capital equipment in the amount of $135,000.
Committee did not have any questions about that bond, and there were no questions or comments from those attending. Among the items included for purchase through this bond financing was the acquisition of various capital equipment for the township’s buildings including a communications system and related installation work for the municipal building which has not had a system upgrade for many years according to Township Clerk Jacqueline Justice.
Ambulance Buy OK’d
Committee authorized the purchase of an ambulance, described as a 2017 Ford E-350 from emergency vehicle specialists through Dennis’ participation in the Houston-Galveston Area Council National Cooperative Purchasing Program.
The estimated cost of the ambulance is $115,000. It is covered under the bond financing approved at the meeting.
Responding to a question from a resident, Mayor Zeth Matalucci explained, “We have an agreement with Belleplain emergency management responders to provide them an ambulance for their services.
“Last year we did so and now with this one we are bringing ourselves up to date in our commitment.”
Committee member Lisa Salimbene reminded parents to stay abreast of various sports team signups which will be going on soon. “We have summer basketball, soccer and football through the Rec Center so I urge families to sign up as soon as possible so that we can accommodate everyone.”
