SEA ISLE CITY – During the public comment portion of Sea Isle City City Council’s April 24 meeting, a resident asked whether the municipality would be implementing regulations to permit taking charitable deductions in lieu of paying property taxes. Such a measure had been floated for certain venues which have comparatively high state and local tax rates and for which deductions on federal tax returns have been capped as a result of recent changes enacted by Congress. Such an action would have to be enacted at the state level to enable a municipality to permit it. So far, the Legislature in Trenton has not introduced anything that would allow Sea Isle City to pursue this type of action.
