TRENTON – The New Jersey Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency and Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Salem County, are reminding farmers that March 16 is the last day to sign up to insure their corn/silage, fresh market sweet corn, grain sorghum, oats, processing beans, soybeans, processing tomatoes.
In addition, a new risk management insurance policy, Whole-Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP), is now available to New Jersey producers for the 2015 crop year. Coverage ranges from 50 to 85 percent of their expected revenue.
WFRP provides a risk management safety net for all commodities on the farm under one insurance policy, including fruit and vegetable growers, organic farmers and animal production and products. Premium subsidies range from 55 to 80 percent of the total premium making crop insurance more affordable for producers.
Individual crop insurance and Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) policies can be used in conjunction with the WFRP to provide individual specific crop protection in addition to the whole farm revenue protection policy.
