COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti and her staff will host the sixth annual Archives Day Presentation and Archives Tour on Wed., Oct. 13, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Old Historic Court House, 11 N. Main Street here. Coffee and tea will be served at 9:30 a.m.
Fulginiti will offer historical document exhibits and present an overview of the judicial archives collection maintained in the County Clerk’s Archives. The presentation will focus on 18th and 19th Century criminal courts in Cape May County.
Architectural Historian Michael Conley of Dennisville will present an oral history of the events surrounding the execution of Richard Pearce, Jr. of Goshen who was found guilty in 1894 by a Cape May County Jury and hanged to his death by the sheriff.
At the conclusion of the program, all are invited to return to the County Clerk’s Archives for a tour and hands-on training session in the use of public records for research. County Clerk Archivist Diana Hevener and Michael Conley will lead the session.
“The presentation, exhibits and tour will be interesting to anyone who enjoys history and researching public records” Fulginiti said. “There is always something interesting to discover from the past.” This is the sixth in an annual series held during the month of October which is celebrated as American Archives Month by the Society of American Archivists.
