Crest Weighs Shifting Kayak Launch Site

WILDWOOD CREST – Mayor Carl Groon and Police Chief Joseph McGrath briefed the Borough Commission Feb. 22 with some suggestions about what to do about Sunset Lake repairs that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) raised at a recent meeting.
Groon presented thoughts about the current kayak launching site that needs to be repaired and improved as a result of storm damage.
Groon stated “the launch site is unsafe” and they should consider replacing the site at another location that would provide more parking. He stated that the current site would be very expensive to demolish and dispose of unless the borough develops a plan that salvages portions of the site for an alternative use, such as a “viewing platform.” Commissioner Don Cabrera indicated that he would favor moving the new launch site to another location.
Groon said no decision is required at this time, but that it makes sense to consider the options available.
Residents expressed an interest in the street paving schedule for Pacific Avenue.
Borough Administrator Constance Mahon reported that Pacific Avenue south of Rambler Road is a county project that is to be completed over the next two years. She stated that the section of Pacific Avenue north of Rambler Road would be completed, including surfacing, by the end of June.
